In February 1972, St. Andrew’s Co-Op Playschool was founded by a group of Markham moms, looking to provide an early learning environment for their pre-school aged children in the basement of St. Andrew’s United Church. Forty years later, St. Andrew’s has evolved into an exceptional pre-school consisting of Early Childhood Educators and Assistant Teachers, dedicated families and a Board of Directors. Together, the community works together to provide a meaningful, enriching learning environment for children 1 ½ to 5 years of age.
This month marks the 40th Anniversary of St. Andrew’s Co-Op Playschool. On Saturday, February 25th, 2012, St Andrew’s Co Op Playschool hosted its Fundraising Gala in honour of this remarkable milestone. The event was graciously supplied at no charge in the banquet hall of Colonel Mustard’s Pub & Deli, 6545 Hwy 7. It was an incredible night!
Mayor Frank Scarpitti presented a recognition plaque to the members of the board and staff. He expressed sincere thanks from town council for providing such an important and enduring service to the community. The Markham Village BIA chair, Diane Kobelansky also extended well wishes from the Markham Main Street vendors.
Following the plaque presentation with the mayor, the attendees enjoyed a delicious meal and stunning custom cake. There was a successful silent auction, 50/50 raffle and door prizes. All of the proceeds from the event will directly support St Andrew’s! This was a true celebration of service to the Markham community.
We would like to thank the following members of the community for their generosity and support:
- Club Markham
- Shopper's Drug Mart
- Johnson and Johnson
- Main Street Dance
- Century 21 - Kimberly Clark
- The Law Offices of Kevin R. Wilson
- The Kolb Family
- Wendy Clark - Cake Designer
Thanks to our families who support the school every day. It truly does take a village to raise a child. With your continued support, St. Andrew’s Co-Op Playschool continues to thrive. It is our dream that our children will visit the school for the 100th Anniversary with great pride.
